Amber Reece-Young named school administrator of the year

Hendersonville – The Henderson County Health Department is proud to announce that Amber Reece-Young, RN, BSN, NCSN has been named the School Nurse Administrator of the Year for the School Nurses Association of North Carolina by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).

Mrs. Reece-Young was nominated to NASN for Excellence in School Nursing by her peers at the Henderson County Health Department and Marcie Wilson, Principal at Clear Creek Elementary School. In her nomination, Mrs. Wilson stated, “Mrs. Reece-Young is a conscientious and diligent nurse, who constantly evaluates her methods, approaches, and activities to ensure that the needs of our students and staff are met. She has established relationships with her colleagues, students, and parents which ensures her success as a school nurse.” Kim Berry, School Nurse Supervisor at the Health Department, nominated Reece-Young “due to the high caliber of her practice, leadership, and community involvement.” Berry added, “Amber has been a school nurse since 2005 and a Lead Nurse with Henderson County School Nurses since 2016. She stands out not only for the work she has accomplished during that time, but for the way she leads her team with compassion, imagination, and skill.” Mrs. Reece-Young received a congratulatory letter from Laurie Combe, MN, RN, NCSN, President of the National Association of School Nurses and Lynnette Ondeck, MEd, BSN, RN, Chair of the Excellence in School Nursing Awards Committee, which stated the following: “We are so proud of your accomplishments and know that you exemplify the best of administrative practice. Your school nurse staff and administrative colleagues are fortunate to serve with you. Thank you for all that you contribute to the specialty of school nursing!” NASN plans to celebrate this award with Mrs. Reece-Young, along with other national awardees through a virtual conference scheduled later in the summer.
