Hendersonville – Despite the backing by former Congressman Mark Meadows from the district, several current senators and President Trump, Haywood County resident Lynda Bennett lost the Republican bid for the 11th Congressional District to Madison Cawthorn; a candidate not yet old enough to hold the seat.
In a nearly 2-1 win, Cawthorn, a Henderson County resident took the win in the special runoff election as neither candidate got enough votes to win the primary outright given the other nine challengers in the field.
Cawthorn will turn 25 in August, the minimum age to hold the seat of a U.S. congressman. He will face Democratic candidate Moe Davis in November.
